Enter the main building

The main building is wedged into the side of the rampart. Come inside to experience a unique building where the boundaries between the outside and inside are merged together. The building is covered by a special foil that creates the sensation of being inside a tent. You can hear the sound of heavy rain drumming on the foil, and you can look out at the landscape surrounding the arena. Look forward to discovering the magical atmosphere of a totally unique building.

The three domes

The three silver-grey domes in the main building each conceal their own exhibition. Inside the darkness, you will find a number of exhibitions that are all different yet still have something in common.

The largest dome holds the Tree of Life exhibition. This is where you can learn about the cycle of life through a tall tree. You will experience a day and year in the life of the tree and learn about nature's fascinating correlations.

In the smallest dome - People in nature - you'll find an interactive game. At the game board you can build towns, coal power plants or set up wind turbines. Join in the game and see what happens when people are involved in nature and the climate changes.

The second largest dome is where we have changing special exhibitions. We set up an exciting universe that needs to be explored – and we don't say what is beforehand. Look forward to it!

Dunes & North Sea waves

The exhibitions in the main building are all about nature's forces as they exist in Western Jutland.

On the lowest level you will find Holmsland Klit, which serves both as a ramp up to the first floor as well as a story about the animals and plants that live in the harsh dune landscape.

You can also walk up to the first floor through the North Sea wave. Experience the sensation of walking inside a huge wave and discover what is hidden beneath the surface.

West Jutland - nature and people

On the first floor you will find beautiful exhibitions that teach you about the different landscapes that you can encounter in West Jutland - from the heath in Herning to the crashing waves of the North Sea.

Biology, geology and cultural history are merged together into the story of why Western Jutland looks like it does – and how people and nature have interacted together over time.

Play with the Earth's building blocks and create your own world. Or find out which building blocks you consist of.

Explore the shop and café

The main building is also home to the shop and café.

We look forward to showing you how we have incorporated sustainability and education into the menu and in the selection on the shelves in our shop.

Also here, we use our product range to point out correlations in nature and challenge habitual thinking.
